
Jay is responsible for sourcing all new business opportunities in the Mid-Atlantic markets including value-added commercial mortgages, note purchase loans, mezzanine loans, equity investments, and advisory engagements.
Jay has been involved with most aspects of commercial real estate financing and investments for 20 years, and has closed over $1.65 billion in commercial real estate via a variety of platforms including CMBS, life company balance sheet, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and 3rd party managed accounts. He has national experience with multifamily, industrial, office, retail, self-storage, hospitality and single tenant properties.
Jay most recently ran lending activities for Morgan Stanley’s Mid-Atlantic CMBS office. Prior to this, he originated and managed loan portfolios for General American Life, Conning Asset Management, MetLife, SwissRE, KeyBank Real Estate Capital. Recently, Jay has been involved in portfolio sale advisory, auditing, risk rating and evaluation services on FDIC failed banks as well as “healthy institutions”.
In addition to origination activities, Jay has over 12 years of “cradle to grave” management of his loan investments on the portfolio side. This included full servicing activities, renewals and increases, assumptions and transfers, defeasance and yield maintenance prepayments, leasing, property management, troubled loan workouts and REO foreclosure related activities such as stabilization repositioning and disposition. The portfolio he managed over this period was in excess of $850 million and consisted of both in-house balance sheet loans as well as 3rd party managed loans, some of which had been securitized. He has brought creative solutions to unique and complex loan requests including forward funding, non-stabilized properties, tenants in common ownership, leaseholds, fractured condominiums and build to suit, special purpose properties.
Jay is a graduate of Colorado State University, has an MBA from George Mason University and has earned the CCIM designation. He has also had numerous Appraisal Institute and Institute of Real Estate Management coursework. Previously, Jay has held Florida and Virginia General Real Estate Appraiser licenses as well as a Virginia sales license.
