
Mr. Taunton possesses broad experience in real estate planning and development in Canada and the United States, plus additional years as a national park planner, a recreation planning consultant, and a senior city planner. During his development career, Mr. Taunton has directed property acquisitions efforts in multiple markets and has managed and entitled over 40,000 acres planned for 25,000 homes and home sites. He was responsible for the development of over 1,500 lots and sales in excess of $200 million.
From 1996 to 2007, Mr. Taunton held senior positions with SunCor Development Company. Mr. Taunton was VP and General Manager for 7 years at an 11,000 acre planned community. In 2003, he became President of SunCor's regional operations in the Northwest, leading the company's effort to plan and develop a 23,000 acre community. Mr. Taunton's responsibilities included creating entirely new business operations for SunCor and leading all aspects of managing communities – visioning, community outreach, land use entitlements, water resource evaluation, land and infrastructure development, home building, commercial development, marketing, sales and community governance.
Mr. Taunton formed Taunton Consulting, LLC in August 2007 and has provided consulting leadership to public and private clients such as: a $300 million water delivery project; a 1,350 acre resort and lifestyle community; assisting land owners with strategic decisions related to their land holdings in a changing market; and on-going planning and land use services at the city level.
Mr. Taunton holds a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Studies (Architecture) from the University of Manitoba and a Masters Degree in Environmental Studies (Planning) from York University (Toronto). He has served on numerous community organizations, including the ULI Idaho District Council – as founding Member and current Chair. Mr. Taunton is also a Registered Lobbyist in the Idaho Legislature.
